How do I get tested?tick

Testing appointments can be booked through the Single Training Booking System, please click here

  • Each morning or afternoon of testing has appointments each lasting 30 minutes. You should book one appointment only.

  • The location of the session is given in the booking confirmation.
  • If you have a heavy cold or other respiratory condition in the week of your test, please cancel your appointment and rebook.

If none of the advertised dates are suitable, you can register interest in a future session online or you can contact individual testers directly. This may be appropriate if they are based in your own department.

On the day of your test, you must meet the following requirements or you will be turned away:

  • You must be clean shaven for the fit test - and whenever you need to wear respiratory protection. This includes any hair growth between the skin and the mask seal, such as stubble, beard, moustache or sideburns which cross the respirator seal.

  • You must be able to taste either bitter or sweet
  • If you normally have a piercing in in your nose/mouth area that might stop a mask fitting correctly, this should be removable and removed for the fit test as well as whenever the mask is worn
  • You should not smoke, eat or drink anything (other than water) or chew gum for the 30 minutes prior to their test

  • You should be in good health; if you have a heavy cold, sinus inflammation or other respiratory condition at the time of the appointment, the test should be rearranged
  • Bring the mask that you normally wear or are likely to wear with you.  If you use a reusable half face respirator please also bring the filters
