FIRST AID ARRANGEMENTS

TRAINING

REQUESTS FOR FIRST AID TRAINING

Requests for first aid training can be made if:

  • the number of first aiders for the building has dropped below the baseline assessment
  • the type of work, hazards or the nature of the workforce changes
  • the first aider is for a specific activity or specialist area.

The request must be made by the manager of the work or work area where first aid training for a member of staff is requested using the First Aid Training Request Form

There are three first aid roles.

  • Appointed Person (First Aid) - no training required
  • Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) - 1 days training required
  • First Aid at Work (FAW) - 3 days training required

The commitment expected from the the EFAW and FAW to maintain their competence is shown in the flowchart.

NB If a first aid certificate is allowed to expire the individual must not act as a first aider at work.
